| I was planning on starting seeds indoors, but am rethinking. What I'm planting is squash, pumpkins, zucchini and cucumbers. Better as plants or seeds this time of year? I believe this is direct sowing. |

| Oh... that is what you are growing... I would direct sow all of them. 3-6 seeds in a mound and then once they germinate only leave the 2 strongest seedlings per mound (yes, that means killing the rest :(). They will look smaller at first, but in a few weeks they will catch up to 'store bought' plants. Keriann~ PS I LOVE VAIL!! just skiied Loveland's Pass the other weekend! |

| Pumpkins and Squash don't like their roots disturbed. Best to plant them straight into the ground. They also like the soil to be warm before you see growth. That is my experience with pumpkins and squash. |

| NO seeds have to be planted inside. NO seeds have to be planted outside. All seeds must be given favorable conditions to germinate. You don't have to kill anything as stated above, you can transplant instead. I've had no problem transplanting anything you are growing as long as you take as much soil as you can to minimize root disturbance. One plant per pot means you can transplant the entire contents of that pot with minimal root disturbance. Just don't pack the soil in around it, instead water it in. |
