| As someone who's caught the bug and really loves growing things, I've been wanting to settle on a project that I can do over the fall/winter. My father is making a fern garden right now, and I thought it'd be interesting to attempt to grow ferns from spore(s).
Has anyone here attempted this? How long do ferns take to grow, in your experience? Are there any other seeds I could try growing in the fall, due to them taking a longer time to get established? |

| I did this in college, we grew them in petri dishes. We threw them out when they were still tiny tiny because the semester ended though. I collect ferns from the wild, its much easier that way! As for things to grow over the winter, try Hosta seeds! you can sew them once they are ripe and dry. good project for the winter months. |

| i have not but my mother has done very well with many ferns. she would spread the seeds on a paper plate, place the plate on a shelf in her green house and keep it damp over the winter. she did not keep them under lights nor did she keep the temp very high. but kept above freezing. hope this helps!! good luck |
