| Hi i know you have to harden off older seedlings for a week or so before leaving them out but what about new seedlings do they need to be hardened off? For example if i presprout Some seeds and as soon as they sprout and germinate i put them out in the garden the same day do they still need to be hardened off or is hardening off only for seedlings that are older?
Thanks! |

| My rule of thumb.... If they are planted outside or are still beneath the soil, no hardening off... but I also take into effect temps and soil moisture. If you grew your seeds in 90* temps inside and then you put them out at 50*.. that would not be good, even if they have not poked through the soil yet. Same as a downpour when they are used to peaceful moist soil. Hardening off only takes a few days to a week at most. It is well worth the effort to save your seeds! Keriann~ |

| FWIW, I've never "hardened off" seeds I've soaked and presprouted for direct sowing. I'm not sure how you'd even do it, since you want to plant them as soon as they sprout. |
