annual plant that looks like this one

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a plant that we can grow from seed. Even if I have to plant it yearly, it's fine as long as I can achieve the dark foliage. Can someone please recommend a plant that looks like the dark foliage plant beside the chartreuse colored plant? I really like it's dark color.

Thanks!

You could try "Purple Ruffles" Basil.

I just saw your earlier post...sorry. I'm not sure if you can start these from seed, but some Sweet Potato vines come in purple and can take full sun.

There are a few ornamental peppers that have purple foliage and can be started from seed. Here's one...

Ordered :) hopefully, they are easy to grow via direct sow!

I usually start my peppers in late March indoors, and I haven't grown Black Pearl, so I couldn't tell you how fast it grows. Maybe you should ask about it on the Hot Pepper forum to see if anyone there has grown it. Check the exchange forum there to see if someone has the seed for SASE or trade. If you obtain seeds soon, it wouldn't hurt to start a few now and save the rest for next year.

Just make sure you sow them in a warm spot as pepper seeds need heat to germinate, about 80 degrees is good. Maybe use some type of hot cap or mini greenhouse until they sprout. Check out the FAQ's at the hot pepper forum for more info. I hope they grow well for you.

I'm hoping that by end of July, they'll be in good size.

Thanks for the info! :)
