Plant database in regards to seed treatment?

Hi, new to propagation in general.

I've rooted some cuttings this year which I'm pretty happy about even though they've been very simple things, Elderberry, Willows.

But I'd like to start propagating by seed to see what kinds of things I could get out of it over the years.

I'm having trouble though in that there's a lot of perennials which require scarification / stratification but I'm not having a whole lot of luck finding a database which has information / tips on a species basis.

Considering how useful it is to horticulture I would think there'd be one out there so if anyone has any ideas would appreciate it. :)

At the moment though, elderberries I read can be acid treated and then refrigerated for about a month if I'm not mistaken.

There are many lists of how to start seeds and which ones need which treatment. If you do a search on gardenweb and the web in general, you will find them. A good one is:

The Clothiers site is great. You might also want to bookmark the Plants for a Future database (found at pfaf.org)

If you want an actual book, look for Making More Plants by Druse. Used copy is fine.

(Your elderberry might do better with warm, cold, cool treatment instead of acid, and don't expect one month moist and cold to be helpful enough :))

There is ,or was, a seed germination database provided by Thompson & Morgan years ago. I printed it out, 35 pages, as it is easier to look up in a binder than on line. It is probably still on the web, a very useful tool. Al

I think I have that one in print someplace too Al, and I have it bookmarked. But seem to turn to Clothiers more often, I hadn't used it in a while...

Here's one from the UK that I find helpful, which also has images of seeds and seedlings as well as a germination database.

If you can't find germination info at any of the above, B & T World seeds lists 35,000 seeds and has germination info on many of them.

There are two other supplements. (Search on Google)
