Bought some peaches at the grocery store. One of the pits was split and there was a seed inside. Let it dry for 2 days and something began to grow. Initially it looked like oak leaves so I was excited that I had a tree. It has since turned into a vine with tendrils and yellow flowers. Looks exactly like a cucumber or melon vine. What happened? Have searched the web for hybrid varieties of peach to see if I got a variety of something used to create the hybrid peach but have found no answers. It's in a pot right now and I'm thinking of putting it in the garden to see what materializes. Any info would be great!

I seriously doubt that what you have growing is a peach seedling. Peaches are like other stone seeded fruits and the seeds need a fairly long cold stratification to germinate. Typical germination times are on the order of several months of stratification. What you describe probably is a vining plant of some curcurbit. George

WOW!! this is a bit interesting!! i would plant it and see what the heck it is!! **big smile** the pit came from inside a peach?? so wonder if it was a vining peach? i have seen the adds for them. i wanted them but had not gotten them yet. they do freeze some fruits to keep them "fresh". uhhh hate that. its not fresh at all. ~medo

medontdo vine peaches are of the cucurbit family and in no way related to a peach. Vine peach seeds are small like a cucumber seed.
