Baobab

I have some baobab seeds and would like some tips on getting them to germinate.
Also, I was wondering if anyone knows the conditions they like to live in. I live in Texas and the hottest average temp. in summer is around 96-97 degrees fahrenheit. In the winter the high is around 50-55 degrees. We usually get about 34 inches of rainfall/yr. I need to know if this climate is suitable for them to be grown outdoors or if i should bring them in. (especially in the winter.)

Thanks for any help.

I know that they would do fine during the summer months, but I'm not sure about winter. The lows usually dip into the mid 30's and we get between 1.5 in. to 3 in. of rain a month during the winter and fall seasons. I know they don't tolerate much water when they are dormant, and aren't very frost prone. That's why I would like some help on whether or not to plant them outdoors or train them as a bonsai.

The baboab lives in Africa ... sounds dry and hot ...don't you think.
I have one from seed now in third year.
I keep mine indoors because of the climate (holland). when night temperatures drop below 15 C (=60 F) it's to cold outside.
And about watering ... at my home the tree goes dormant in winter. From october when it drops it's leaves and goes "to sleep" absolute no water, when it shows signs of growth(mostly april/may) i water once or twice a month.
I read somewhere to get it out of the soil in wintertime ... wrap it into a newspaper and keep it onder your bed ... I think that's to much !

I used to live in The Gambia, in West Africa and have seen them growing in many conditions:
The Gambia has a wet season and a dry season, so too much rain would not be a problem. They also grow extensivly in the Sahel region (the border of the Sahara Desert) which gets only a few inches of rain a year. It can get as low as the 40's in the desert at night, but I have never known it to freeze. All the baobabs I've seen have been bigger than a house in girth, so good luck fitting it under your bed! All the baobabs I saw were hundreds of years old; my guess is that ideal conditions might be wet/dry seasons when they were young but they can survive years of drought. What part of Texas do you live in?

I live near the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Do you know how to get them to germinate?

does it matter which end you scarify?

How moist should the soil be kept while it is germinating? I have heard to keep it very wet, and also not to water until it gets very dry.
