anti-cryptogamic solutions

I just love it when you read articles about propagation and people throw around terms like "anti-cryptogamic solution" that should be used when starting certain seeds - I'm working with somewhat difficult plants like Cryptolithos.

Could anybody please let me know if these can be home-made, or which ones are safe to use with seeds?
