 o
how to germinate seeds for the fall crop?

Its in the 100s' in July and August here in S. Texas. zone 9A. I think I should already have some fall vegetables in the ground, but I can hardly get anything at all to germinate, its so hot. (I guess its the heat) I brought a tray of newly planted lettuce into our dining room, and it germinated.....but of course since there is very little light, they immediately became leggy and died. I am sure that older generations somehow were growing fall crops, and without having to supply an air conditioned room and expensive fluorescent grow-bulbs. What is the solution?

Excessive heat is about the least of my gardening issues here in this cool summer Z8, but you may find this chart helpful, indicates approximate guidelines for your Fall crops. It appears you are early for the Fall lettuce, and for several other things too

Here is a link that might be useful: Texas A&M Extension
