It wasn't pollinated by anything, the plant is genetically sterile, or you're not waiting long enough. Could be environmental stress too.

could it because it is a hybrid? i don't know if there is such a thing for morning glory plant. i have seen some morning glory at other people's houses that don't produce any seeds, because i was hoping to collect some seeds. that always make me wonder how they reproduce.

Your morning glory seeds are not producing seeds for 1 of 2 reasons. If they are a new variety, the chances are they could be from an F1 Hybrid. How ever if you have a common variety like Heavenly Blue, it does take time for the seeds to develop, take a look at your plants, and if you see some swelling on the vine, where the flower once was, that swelling is the production of seeds. The seed population is not present at the same time the flower is.

I've grown morning glories for several summers in pots on my deck, situated so that they climb up a colume of chicken wire to hide an ugly chimmney pipe. The boxes are in setting on shallow gravel. Much to my suprise, every spring the seeds that dropped from the vines and had fallen into the gravel sprouted! They somehow survived all through the winter (zone 5) in this gravel. I haven't had to start any indoors anymore because I've already got the 'children' of last years germinating! Has anyone else had this experience??

I my neighborhood the best looking morning glories are grown by and old man who lets the seed fall to the ground and just waters them in the spring, he never plants them.

I have a nice tower of morning glories that just seeded over. I had a variety of colors but only a deep blue with a purple star came back. They are very lush and healthy and a vibrant color! I have to guess that either these are exceptionally genetically dominant or they are the ones that are hardy in zones 5-6.
