growing shrubs from berry

my husband picked some berries from a shrub on a walk one day and brought them home. We can't identify them - they are small red berries. I'm not looking for the berries to be identified but I'm wondering if the berries can be planted to grow a shrub?

Most berries, if the seed is ripe when picked, readily germinate when the conditions are favorable for that plant. Al
