I am looking for recommendations on a good kit for starting seeds. I need something simple that does not require any major DIYing. Any ideas? Especially for starting brassicas?

I started broccoli, spinach, and brussels sprouts about 2 months ago and the seeds (most) germinated and they grew but then just stopped. They won't die or grow. I started them in a very warm bathroom that is almost like a greenhouse with a huge window that lets in alot of light. Nights got cooler though. They sprouted but then stopped growing. I went ahead and put them out after hardening them off and they are still just 'stuck'. Either the temps was too inconsistent or the soil was poor or a combination of both. So I would like to try a climate controlled growing kit before giving up on all these seeds I bought.

Safaribabe Some of us would like to help you with your problem but are not sure if you garden in Florida or Alaska, so your temperatures are difficult to guess. Al

I have found that the easiest and most successful way to grow plants from seed is with wintersowing. It is amazing how well they germinate and produce seedlings during the winter, with very little help from you. There is a wintersowing forum here at GardenWeb or you can go to WinterSown.org for more info. Try it - you'll like it!

Al, I am growing in 2 zones.. zone 7 and between zone 9-10 (along the coast in watsvonille, california).
clarification

Maybe I should specify that I am looking for the light and thermal pad setup? I have only grown seeds in cold frames but am wanting to try a 'controlled environment."
correction
| | |
start them in mini greenhouses or inside... not a cold frame

For a really cheap one, I have had great luck with the small Jiffy greenhouses. =) Really, anything with the clear plasstic lid should have the same results. The key being you just have to know when to move the seedlings back into light & also when to crack the dome slightly or remove it fully for a feew hours.
