cosmos, & saving seeds

Hi, I've posted in the seed saving forum but had no answers yet so I thought I could give it a try here too, I am new here sooo......
We have some very pretty shades of pinks cosmos growing & want to save the seed for replanting.

Several have dropped their petals & what is left from the center of the flower is beginning to dry & seems prickly. I tried to break one open today to see the seeds but cannot seem to find them, the center of what I broke open is still soft inside.

Anyone have any info, greatly appreciated! Thanks very much!

you said it starting to dry go ahead & let it dry. I have allowed it to self sow... do nothing

Thanks, then they will come up on their own, right? Yeah, they are drying out now.

They do self sow nicely. I collect seed too. A lot of the cosmos seed heads look like a little ball of spikes. The pink ones are softer in shape.

Yep, the seed are like spikes. They easily self-sow or can be easily gathered and winter sowed.
