What can I plant along with tulip bulbs?

I will be planting 70 tulip bulbs in a long bed this Fall. What flower seeds could I sow in this bed which will come up and grow next Spring after the tulips have stopped blooming?

any annual, perennial, shrub or tree It all depends on the size of the bed, the amount of light (north side or west side etc) drainage, are you in plant zone 8? if so list longer than zone 2.....

Yes, Yiorges-z5il's, I am in Zone 8. The bed will be to the West side of my house. It will be in the sun most of the day, with some shade in the late afternoon. My soil is red clay so I plan to make a raised bed and add top soil and compost.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am sure you will get lots of suggestions, but the one that comes to mind right now would be cosmos. They are an annual, very easy to grow from seed, and bloom all summer long. They also come in many different colors. I don't think they are very fussy as to soil, so a raised bed would be optional for them, but they would appreciate some compost mixed into the top 8 inches of clay.

Thanks, Lois, for your suggestion. I love cosmos. I haven't grown them in a long time. But I think you are right and the link you gave me shows so many beautiful ones I could try.
