Cold stratifying tree seeds using bag method

It was suggested that I post in here for specifics. I am growing the following three types of seeds:
Sequoia Sempervirens (Coast Redwood)
Taxodium Distichum (Bald Cypress)
Tsuga Canadensis (Canadian Hemlock)

I have scarified per info from the forums and other sources:
Sequoia - 24hrs
Bald Cypress - 72hrs (avg based on 48hrs to 4 days in cone)
Hemlock - 48hrs

Now I have placed into ziplock baggies with seed starter mix, poked many holes to keep seeds from rotting (past exp) and have placed in the drawer of my frig. Frig is set at 39deg.

Will this bag method work in the frig or is this generally done after germination?

And when do I remove and plant, after I see sprouts or after the suggested cold strat, 30 days (Seq and Hem) or 90 days (Bald Cyp)? Or whichever come first one at a time?

Thanks

Remy

A cold period is needed so the seed may finish the maturity process... ( the embro finally develope of chemical changes can occure) when tis maturation process is finished the seed may /will germinate. SO once germination occures in the bag then remove the seedling it will need warmer soil & LIGHT.....

Are you perhaps confusing S. sempervirens with Sequoiadendron giganteum? There's no reason to scarify or stratify the coastal redwood seeds. A sterile germinating medium and a shallow covering that allows sunlight to penetrate to this seeds is though. Germination is typically low no matter what techniques are used, so plant liberally.

Thanks Dicot.

No, definitely sequoia sempervirens. Everything that I have read so far, including what I have read here in the forums, has indicated that I should scarify and strat for approx 30 days, to help imitate the wintering process.

Thanks again for the feedback.
