stubborn plum seed

hi! about four or five weeks ago i dried a plum pit, cracked it open to get the seed and followed directions on how to use to stratification method to germinate it. After a few weeks, i looked at the seed and some of the brown skin had curled back to expose a white layer. A few days later a small sprout? appeared at the tip. I was jubilant. But now, after 2 1/2 more weeks nothing more has happened. The seed has stayed stagnant, no more growth has appeared on the sprout. Is there something wrong? Should I wait a few more weeks?
Also, when should I take it out of the refrigerator? And after it's out of stratification, should I put it in the ground or in a pot under growth lights?
