Peat pots...worth using or not?

I generally grow all my seeds in a soiless potting mix. This past spring I was given some peat pots and planted a number of plants in them. Germination was good, though they absorbed more water than I liked and a few plants rotted in them. But I thought that the plant roots didn't develop as well as in regular germination mix. Just wondering if other people have found that too?

I grow quite a few plants myself and I got rid of peat pots long ago. I just found the either dried or stayed to wet and got fungus so I switched to plastic and have way fewer problems. I probably threw away 300 go 400 2" and 3" peat pots but I just shredded them with my lawn mover and threw them into my compost.

When I got rid of my peat pots I shredded them and mixed with some pea gravel and a lot of cactus mix. Cactus and succulents didn't seem to mind if the stuff were diluted enough with other things.

Yeah, I gave up on them over a decade ago. Non-renewable resource, always too wet or too dry and more expensive than mixing my own sterile germination blend.

If you'll do a forum search using 'peat pots' you'll find tons of discussions about them - most quite negative for several reasons.
