Anyone have a trick up their sleeve concerning ensete seeds?

Here's the deal:
About a year ago I ordered ensete seeds from a company. They sprouted like mad, and I had to give away about 50 ensetes to family & friends. I didn't do anything special, just knicked them, soaked them overnight, kept them warm in damp soil, and they sprouted in a week or two.
I have tried other banana-plants too, and have had great success with alternating temperatures.

This year, I have ordered ensete seeds from 2 different companies. Zero germination in 2 months. Is this a globally bad year for ensete seeds? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I nick the seed & then soak in water for 72 hours...... Then cover the seed lightly... soil temp 85F (29.4C) Germination MAY take from 9 to 180 days

Mr. Bungalow, who did you buy the seeds from the first time? Was it the same firm this year?

As far as the others, what temps do you alternate and for how (i.e how many days / weeks, etc.)

TIA!

Wanna Run;
Bought from Baanana treee in PA first year and this year. Also tried rare palm seeds this year. The firms are placed on 2 different continents. I doubt they use the same source for an everyday plant like ensete?

But there must be a reason for my great success the first year with a single batch of seeds and no success this year with multiple batches.

As for the other banana-seeds, I plant them in empty ice-cream boxes (lid on) filled with humus-rich soil and put them on a heat mat set at 14 hrs of 10-15 degrees C and 10 hrs of 25-35 degrees C. Works like a charm for velutinas, ornatas and sikkimensis.

THanks, Mr. Bungalow. I was hoping you used a different source than last year because that's the one I wanted to try! I've got some in progress for about a week that I got from banana plantation in California. If nothing comes up, I was looking for another (and hopefully fresher) source. I had some really fresh veluntinas but I planted them outside in a pot and it's been a couple of months and still nothing (luckily the kind lady who sent me the banana also sent me a plant!). I am definitely going to try your alternating temps technique!
