Suggestions for an old craftsman house

We are planning on adding brick to the exterior wall. There is about 5ft of space for landscaping on the exterior in front of the wall. We are also considering removing this pomagrante tree and adding ornamental grasses/shrubs to the front edge of the house. We are thinking about adding some Italian Pines to the left corner of the house. Any other suggestions for shrubs would be welcomed.

Hi, Just a thought..
If you are putting brick on your wall, (maybe on the lower half?) - I would suggest something not very 'dense' because you would not want to hide they brick that you paid for.
(Or maybe the entire wall will be brick, I don't know)

Plus - It sounds like the Italian Pines are going in a different space? Have you considered 'Fruitless Olive' (only Swan Hill is truly fruitless)?

I have no idea what your growing area is like....
