Is skip laurel a good alternative to Nellie Foster in a heavy shade area for our bare back yard (2 large tulip poplars growing at either end of yard)? Skip Laurel is cheaper and seems brighter in coloration. Any problems anyone knows of with them? Thank you.

Well, when this shrub put out its new growth- sending out 5 or so whorls of foliage from this growth point, there wasn't a single speck of yellow that I could see. However, today I was admiring the sheer beauty of form and the lovely new growth and I found another leaf with a section of yellow at the new growth tip on a totally different part of the shrub. This is encouraging! It would imply that there is something (mostly) latent within the entire shrub. This would not only increase the chances that the plant will sport consistent variegation at some point, but suggests the plant could probably produce variegated forms from seed.
