I should have mentioned that I can't do a "smell test" to determine if it's a lilac--my allergies are so awful right now I can't smell a thing. :(

I don't know lilacs, but that does not look like a butterfly bush.

I think lilacs can get quite big in your area (not here, though).

Thanks, folks. I thought a butterfly bush would look more "hairy," for lack of a better word, but as I'm a new gardener I can't be sure of my guesses. My sinuses were a little clearer this a.m., and I managed to detect a light flowery scent coming from the blossoms, which was nice.

Definately a Lilac.
