In the previous post, someone suggested privet (Ligustrum species). The leaves do suggest a match to that especially given your comment that it gets purplish berries later in the year. Look up pictures of ligustrum japonicum or perhaps ligustrum vulgare and see if that's a match.

Looks to be thorns there, in which case I'd suggest a Berberis.
