Itea Virginica Problem

Posted by nailbird Maryland (My Page) on

Greetings,

Can anyone help with a problem with my Virginia Sweetspire. I planted 10 plants about 2 months ago on a small hillside with lots of sun. They seem to be taking pretty well, but lately red spots have begun to appear on the leaves (only the top of the leaf) of some plants. Also, the leaves are a light green color and not the dark green I expected. The plants are well spaced to promote air circulation.

I did a little hunting around and think this might be Entomosporium leaf spot. Can anyone confirm this and recommend a fix. Also, can anyone tell me why the leaves are such a light green color? Too much sun? Poor soil?

These plants are an important part of my new garden and I really want them to be healthy.

RE: Itea Virginica Problem

I think it is too much sun that is causing some stress and the light color. Itea can handle full sun in high moisture situations (like stream banks), but I suspect on a hillside you just have average moisture.
