Transitioning a Norfolk Pine

Posted by nailbird Maryland (My Page) on

Greetings,

Several years ago I was presented with a small Norfolk Pine as a deskplant (5 inches tall). It was a lovely little plant and I took good care of it... it's now 8 feet tall and growing in a pot inside my living room. Obviously I have to take some action.

I'd like to transition this tree outside. These are uncommon in my area (I live on the Chesapeake Bay), but there is at least one beautiful example in my neighborhood. I could use some advice about steps to take to transition this plant to the outside world, and what it likely to happen when it sees its first winter.

I would sure hate to lose this plant which has been a great companion.

Thanks,
NB

I guess that you've learned after all this time that the best place to post a question is in the 'Conversations' part of this forum and not the 'Gallery', which is rarely visited.

Anyway, Norfolk Island Pines will not grow in your area. These plants are suited to purely tropical locations, where temperatures are not expected to dip below 40 (fahrenheit) or so. I suspect that what you've seen is a plant with similar structure.
