It does look like a maple but it could also be a Viburnum, particularly V.opulus.
A fine shrub with clear red berries,great for wildlife.

Thank you Greenlarry. I do not think it is V.opulus since the leaves as shown in my picture have 5 lobes and have a summer foilage color of dark maroon as do the stems and trunk. The oriental caretaker said something like Siren or Sirus as a common name but I have not been able to find anything that matches up?

I wonder if he meant Cissus which is a vine with superficially maple like leaves

Thanks again! I looked at hundreds of photos on Google under the link you sent and none of them look like that leaf. Do leaves within a particular plant leaf vary in number of lobes? Otherwise I have not seen anything suggested that is close and as I said the entire plant inluding trunk, stems and leaves are that reddish color right now during summer so I assume that is the year long color. I do not want to plant the shrub until I know what it is and the true requirements are. Thanks again for any ideas!

This may be none of my business, but I would insist on speaking to someone whose native language is English, and getting clear answers. It's unfair to pay for a plant and not be told what the botanical name of it is!!!!!!!

Umm, English as native language is NOT, I repeat NOT a guanantee that the plant information will be correct.

The selling of unnamed plants by unknowledgable people is typical rather than unusual. But being able to speak English isn't going to correct the problem.

If people thought it unfair to pay for a plant without knowing what the heck it is, then the big box stores would all have to close their garden centers, lol.
