Butterfly host plant shrubs

Which shrubs do you find the most caterpillars on? I grow a lot of perennials for the butterflies, but I'd like to add some shrubs/vines as well.

Passiflora vines, Spicebush (Lindera benzoin), Oaks are host to over 500 types of moth/butterfly caterpillars. See the linked site below. Click on "downloads" to get to the lists.

Blueberry and Fothergilla are two others that get caterpillars in my yard. Paw Paws, not shrubs usually, are a host. Actually most native plants are hosts to something, it just depends on if it is something you like (for example, a butterfly vs. a moth).

Perennialfan, have you posted your question in the Butterfly Gardening Forum? There are some real experts over there, if you want some further information besides the good stuff you've seen here.

Personally, I try to avoid a lot of host plants because I seem to have so many birds that visit the gardens! They really go after caterpillars and even pupas, though they leave the butterflies alone, pretty much. The Monarch caterpillars on the Asclepias are always safe, though.
