Is my Nandina dead ?

My Nandina was an indoor plant that did not do well inside and was transplanted outside but it has dropped all its leaves and has been like this for months (transplanted it in spring and it's now the middle of summer). When I snapped one of its twigs there's no green left inside it.

Is there a chance that it might still come back or should I just take it out and plant something else in it's place?

It sure doesn't sound promising. If you clip it all the way back to the ground with no evidence of living tissue, I'd not expect it to come back from the roots.
