How To Protect From Frost Damage?

Hi!!

We are newly transplanted to Tallahassee, Fl and I have some Wax Myrtle (native) shrubs that we transplanted about 1 month ago. Since we are from South Fl I don't know much about frost damage. Would a simple bed SHEET placed over the shrubs help with frost damage? Or would I need something thicker?

It is suppose to get down to 17 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, but it warms up to the 40's during the day.
Thanks ahead of time!

Halime

Unestablished or newly planted trees and shrubs may be less cold tolerant than those fully established in the landscape so some protection may be in order. Southern wax myrtles generally do not suffer much damage at temperatures above 0F.

Make sure the plants and the surrounding soil are well hydrated (moist soil freezes at a lower temperature than dry soil and releases a certain amount of calories/heat when it does) and make sure the root zone is well mulched. Draping them at night with a loose covering - a bedsheet is fine - should help to protect against foliar damage. Remove any covering during the day.
