Grow cuttings from Lilac & plant this season - Is this possible?

Posted by swduncan 5 - WI (My Page) on

I have a large, overgrown lilac that I would like to take cuttings of, and then use the cuttings to create a hedge. My question is whether it would be possible to take the cuttings shortly after the bush blooms, let them take root over the summer, and plant them in the fall?

I'm trying to figure out how to do this without having 25 plants in the house over winter.

Thanks!

Steve

It might be easier to cut and transplant sucker growth. Does your lilac have suckers?
