i suspect improper planting.. and perhaps improper watering.. because of the planting ...

did you unpot.. remove all the potting media.. and plant them in native soil????

are you saying they doubled in size in one growing season.. last year ...

if the roots have settled in.. i suspect they ought to at least double again this year.. and maybe triple in size ....

of all the things to have handy for a scale.. \this has to be the first football ... ,lol...

a plant that doubles in size.. is not hungry.. do not fert them .... just water properly ....

the first is awful close to the house.. for its potential .... perhaps you planted it close because it was so small when you got it ....
