Effect of Landscape Lighting on Shrub Blooms?

Stephen Costa

Wondering if anyone knows if landscape lighting can possibly negatively affect blooms in shrubs?

I have a 20W halogen floodlight cast onto a Witch Hazel plant, and I'm wondering if the light output from the floodlight will somehow screw up the blooming of the shrub... not sure if the artificial incadescent light would in some way trick the bush into thinking it's day all the time? I *assume* UV light would be necessary to do this, but who knows...

I'm also planning to install more lighting in the Spring and don't want to mess up any of the other blooms (Rhodies, Azaleas, Hydrangeas, etc.) with my lighting schemes (note - the other lighting will all be tier-style, it's just the tall Witch Hazel that I will have the floodlight on).
