Prunus laurocerasus 'Schipkaensis' (Schip Laurel)

I have Schip Laurels on both sides of my back yard. They get fairly equivalent amounts of sun and water. One side borders a wooded building lot. The other side borders a neighbors house. The shrubs adjacent to the wooded lot, which does not effect the amount of sunlight they get, is starting to have some browning of leaves and loss of leaves. This is not true with the other side near my neighbor. Does any one have any suggestions. All these shrubs were planted last year.

what kind of trees are on the wooded lot..

do you recall any abundance of roots.. when digging the hole to plant????

which has morning sun.. and which has the hot afternoon sun ..

what is your watering protocol??

did you unwind or sever the roots on planting.. were they pot bound???

Ken,
I really don't know what kind of trees are on the lot. Those that are there are all deciduous. A landscaper planted the shrubs. There did not appear to be a root problem. Both sides get the morning sun. The back of our house faces southeast. We live in East TN. Last summer was very hot and dry. We watered daily. The shrubs did quite well over the summer. The leaf loss became noticeable a few weeks ago.
Thanks for your response

you are welcome ..... i am at a loss right now .. hopefully others will chime in

I live in middle TN and some of my schip laurels have some brown leaves as well. In addition to a hot, dry summer, we had a tough winter for this area. I suspect that the brown leaves are just winter damage. I would suggest cutting the plant back where it was damaged in mid April and see what happens.

Good luck!
