Not the honeysuckle, which I have seen many times here. Since you are in AZ it could be something not well known outside of your part of the country.

I believe the shrub is Dwarf Myrtle, Myrtus communis. Did you notice a fragrance when the leaves are crushed?

That sure does look like a match, Flora.

Will probably have the characteristic flowers later in the year, confirming the identification. This is planted up here also but very few older, persisting specimens are known to me.

I think flora uk is on the money. It looks like the "true myrtle": _Myrtus communis_.

I surmised the 'Dwarf' part of the id. I know myrtle well but only the normal, slightly rangy version. Although the leaves and berries are the same this one is much more compact in habit.
