Pussy Willow dead?

I was really surprised and disappointed to see both of my mature appx. 12' pussy willow shrubs dead this Spring. They were planted probably about 25yrs. ago, was this more years than I should have expected? Just curious on the life expectancy of PW. Of course they were part of a hedge/tree screen, in the middle actually, so really hate to cut them out. Usually I see the bloom about now, and the wood and branches appear dead.

RE: Pussy Willow dead?

'usually' is a hard word to use in the garden ..

though we have had a few nice days in my z5, just north of toledo ... the soil surely hasnt been warmed enough for me to come to any conclusions about what might have died ...

give them a few more weeks ... and.. they may even resprout form the ground, even if the tops were somehow damaged ...

IMHO.. give them another month before you think about removal ...

you may be absolutely right.. but i wouldnt be in a hurry ... to be done with them ...
