Deciduous Shrub identification?

I pass by one of the homes down our street and in front they have what appears to be a deciduous shrub, about 3 feet tall with a narrow profile. The bare stems look like someone had arranged them in a vase, straight up with a slight flare towards the top and no lateral branching. I have not seen any foliage on it yet. Any idea what this might be?

Maybe a columnar buckthorn.

Just googled pics for that and don't think thats it. I can't imagine they would have planted that by the front entrance if it was going to get that big. Plus it looks like rather than having one large stem, it has multiple erect stems from a narrow base in the ground.

Would take a picture but I don't want to be the weird guy down the street taking pics of neighbours houses.

in MI.. today .. EVERYTHING IS ENTIRELY DORMANT ...

its way to early to have any clue.. based simply on structure ...

especially if you have no clue whether it was pruned to that shape ... or not..

simply knock on the door of the best landscaped house where you see it and ask ...99.9% of peeps who garden.. or invest in landscape.. will give you either a name.. or allow a picture ...

if and when they flower.. and you can add a flower color.. we might be able to flail about in guessing ...

WAG .... might try saucer magnolia in MI .... see link ...

and you will know when that thing flowers.. lol ..

where in MI are you???

Here is a link that might be useful: link

I'm in SE MI, and some things are starting to peek out. My echinaceas, asters and geraniums have put out shoots already.

The plant in question looks like a large cylindrical vase with a narrow base and wider top than bottom. The entire profile is narrow. The body being comprised of mainly erect sturdy stems.

Guess I will just have to make some new friends......
