About Symphoricarpos x doorenbosii 'Amethyst'

From the internet and books I have, I can only gather that it can 'spread indefinitely' (but typically 3-6 ft), and only find pictures of closeup. Hope someone can help with these questions:
-In the garden, does it spread vigorously and need a lot of effort to control?
-Any picture on its overall look (e.g. compactness) perhaps relative to other plants?
-Is it truly deer resistance?
-Any words of advice?
Thanks.

Symphoricarpos is a thicket-forming shrub -- it can send out suckers/shoots at some distance away from the mother plant. If you are attentive, it is relatively easy to control the spread, but it is not what I'd consider to be a very "tidy" shrub. It has a rather loose, rangy appearance. It is generally considered to be moderately deer resistant -- I do not see excessive damage to our native plants but deer will eat or at least browse whatever they feel like browsing :-)

Thanks gardengal. Your answers are exactly what I was looking for.
"....send out suckers/shoots at some distance away from the mother plant" and "....a rather loose, rangy appearance" kind of make it undesirable for my home garden, but the pink berries in late summer make it so tempting to use it somehow. May be in a container or some kind of cottage garden...
