| I am putting in a couple of Viburnums and would like to know which ones are the favorites of birds? I would like a more compact one if possible. I read that the birds don't care much for the Compact American Cranberry. Thanks for any thoughts..also what else should I plant with these Viburnums? I am planting a couple along my back privacy fence and would like to add some other perrenials or shrubs in with them. Thanks you. |

| The best viburnums (as well as other flavors of shrubs) for birds are going to be those species that are from your part of the world. Viburnum dentatum (Arrowwood viburnum) is the easiest to find, grow, and have lots of fruit for summer avian residents. Other species likely to be good to grow in Missouri include V. prunifolium, V. rufidulum, V. acerifolium, V. molle, and V. nudum. Most of the dogwoods and serviceberries are good fruit producers that birds will frequent, as are all of the hollies (evergreen AND deciduous). |
