boxwood

There are a lot of boxwood in my garden. I kind of take them for granted. I probably have more than 6 of "Green Velvet" which look good whatever the season. There are several boxwood which grow in a round ball. Beautiful shiny leaves, especially good looking after a snow fall. There are also boxwood called "Pin Cushion" , they appear to grow big and wide. Looking scruffy this spring, also a lot of yellow leaves. No nitrogen, anything else? Is there anything specific to boxwood culture? Or would a few shovelfuls of compost be all that's needed. Also, when it comes to trimming and shaping boxwood, it's not like roses I guess. They need trimming not mutilation. Few good suggestions are most welcome.
