Trimming Holly Steeds?

Posted by tigernyc (My Page) on

Hey all! I planted these holly steeds in front of my house almost 2 years ago. Any advice on when and how to trim them? Maybe level them off on the top? Or maybe just let them grow some more before trimming. I eventually want them to look like one uniform trim.

Hopefully this picture works. If not, I will try again.

Thanks!

The more sun 'Steeds' gets, the denser it has the potential to be. Also, they do take a while to get established after planting, so you maybe should not expect a lot of growth right away. I would clip lightly for now. And keep the tops rounded rather than 'flat top'. I think they'll kick in pretty soon...unless there is a lot of shade or competition from tree roots.
