Questions on Wine & Roses Weigla & Variegated Variety

I'm thinking of adding either two Wine & Roses or two of the variegated variety weigla to my perennial border. I don't want them to crowd other perennials nearby. I had a red variety which stays about 5' x 5' which is fine.

My second question is how well do the dark leaves on Wine & Roses hold up in the full sun areas of your garden? I live in central Virginia and the summer sun here is fierce come July/August.

How about the variegated cream/green leaved varieties? Can they take a hot site? My neighbor has them, but they're on the north side of her house.

In my experience, dark or variegated leaves in this zone do not perform particularly well when sited in full blazing sun. Depending on the plant, the darker leaves will wash out a bit -- green up. Still, the darker leaves do better than the variegated, wich tend to burn and just look sickly. Performance will, of course, vary with site and plant.
