photinia cuttings

I'm going to experiment with taking cuttings from my Fraser's Photinia bushes.

I plan to take new growth cuttings(red tips), do it early in the morning and place them in a moist plastic bag during the cutting process. I have rooting powder and am planning to use those jiffy compost pellets to get them growing. I know they will need to be kept moist and will be covered with a clear plastic lid.

My actual question is about the cutting method.

Should I use a clean sharp knife, scissors or should I "pinch" them off?

Also should the cut be straight or at an angle?

Thanks in advance of any advice

Nigel

Clean cuts with shears when stems are firm enough to snap when bent - but not firm enough to bend without snapping readily, or still so soft that then are smashed when so tested.

Still-red new growth is liable to be too juvenile.
