| I browsed through the forum looking for a solution, but honestly I just don't know how to describe my problem. I've decided to do something about the shrubs in the front of my new home... it seems they're boxwoods... I know nothing more than that. They're very brittle... almost impossible to cut with my hedgetrimmer. It seems they've grown together.. just the tips are green the rest looks like dead branches. Any advice on what to do would be great..
I couldn't get the pics to upload so here's a link.. http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/7176/dsc05546.jpg http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1103/dsc05551d.jpg |

| They look like they might be small-leaved japanese holly: Ilex crenata. Look closely at the leaf arrangement - if the leaves are arranged on the stem in pairs opposite one another, it is boxwood; if they are alternately along the stem, it is the holly. If it is the holly, they can be severely pruned and they will regrow.

| Thanks for posting the pics up for me. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me! I'll take a look tomorrow. What do you mean by severely pruned? By the way, I am clueless to anything about the yard... this is the first one I'm actually doing myself. |

| You are correct. It's a japanese holly. |
