Need a new hedge/screen

Hi There,

I'm about to clear out a piece of land that is currently overgrown with buckthorn and "prairie stuff". You know those tall, thin, sticklike things with teeny tiny flowers on top. Sorry, I don't know the proper name :(

I'd like to plant a hedge/privacy screen but am having trouble finding something to fit my criteria. Maybe it doesn't exist but thought I would ask the experts here first.

I haven't taken a pic yet because it's still all overgrown but here are the details of the location:
Eastern border of our property (runs North to South), facing west, about 70' long. The neighbor has a 5' iron fence so I will be leaving space between the hedge and fence so we can trim. Zone 5a, Full sun, clay soil.

Ideally I'd love an evergreen. Something tall, anywhere from 8'-20' tall. Thin, maybe 2'-3' deep. I like Yews and Boxwoods but can't find one of the tall Yews for my zone and can't find a boxwood that gets that tall. A friend suggested Arborvitae but I loathe those things, no offense.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
