Need to replace big old rose

Sadly, my big Reve d'Or rose has a fatal disease (rose rosette) and must be replaced. It primarily has a western exposure against our masonry house and porch, except one part that spills over to the front (southern exposure). My first choice would be hydrangeas, but I'm not sure they would be happy with that western exposure.

I thought about crepe myrtles, but I'm not sure. We use the porch almost daily and my little boys are averse to bees, wasps, etc. Any suggestions?

Here is a link that might be useful: Reve d'Or by porch
