Golden Euonymous turning white-Bacteria?

I have had a small hedge of golden euonymous against my house for about 10 years and they have always thrived. Then last year, one of the plants turned white and seems to have died. Then another one next to it. I got to thinking it must be some kind of bacteria or something. And this isn't a powdery mildew on the leaves, the leaves actually lose all color.

But now, I have plants not even near these that are doing the same thing...it seems very random. I thought maybe it was from using pruning sheers on the infected ones, and then cutting others, but I really don't cut these plants much.

Any ideas?

we cant do this on words alone ...

but the worst problem with Euonymous is scale ...

Sounds like herbicide damage. Any chance you had drift on a roundup application?

i would check the branches - if there are white flecks all over the branches as well, it is scale. I had 14 eunymous bushes affected by this and they slowly died one by one. Had to rip them out. Trying to get rid of the scale is a beast, easier to just replace.

I realize this is an old post but I think I have a few euonymus shrubs and they have white spots. I think they have powdery mildew. How do I treat it?

Photo looks like scale.

We lost 2 of them to scale a few years ago in 2 locations. Stressed plants are more susceptible. In our case we had poor drainage, transplanting shock from being dug & swapped to us, etc.
