| I went to a garden design workshop this weekend and am pretty pleased with the design for my front landscape that I did at the workshop.
I'm trying to stick with the lime-green and dark purple color theme. The designer coaching me suggested I use the 3 tiger eye sumacs that I have. She suggested moving them to the rock area that is right by my front walkway. I think this could look nice, however, I have a couple concerns that I'm hoping y'all can either debunk or support my concern. They supposedly have potential to reach 6' in height. If they do reach that height, they'll obstruct my view of the front garden from both inside the house and and front porch. If you have one that's been in its spot for a while, how tall/wide is it and how old is it? The 3 I have are are starting their 3rd season and are about 2½' tall. Can they take pruning to keep it small.... like 3-4' or so? Thanks for your help!
OLD PHOTOS, but you get the idea: (ignore the arrow, that shrub bit the dust a few weeks back)

| Melissa, I planted two, one gallon size, Tiger Eyes late spring of 2008 by late summer of 2009 they were both at least 4 x 4. I even moved one of them at the beginning of spring 2009 and it actually grew faster than the one that wasn't moved. Based on last year I expect both of mine to hit, or come close, to the 6' mark this year. For me, at least, they grow very fast. I don't have any experience (yet) with pruning so I can't help you there. Good Luck Alexis |
