What is this plant?

Hi everyone,
I would like to know what this straw like plant is.

It gets really green and bushy in the summer but has been yellow and dry like this since last fall.
I was told if I trim these they will grow back.
Is this true.
I already trimmed several of these.
They get very tall like 7-8 feet tall.

How do I attach an image/photo of this plant here?

Certainly it is a type of ornamental grass.

Clearing away the dead each year is a typical chore with ornamental grasses.

put on some gloves.. and go look down near the ground..

most likely.. you will see where it was hacked back last spring ... and do the same

you should also be seeing some new shoots developing.. cut just above such ...

a quick hint...

tie it all up while its standing there.. then start cutting... when you are done.. its all ready bound for the garbage ... or to carry to the compost pile ...

grasses like this.. might slice the heck out of skin... so be careful ... some do.. some dont...
