Unknown shrub help

I have posted this in the other name this forum, but figured I'd post here as well. The house we used to rent had two large shrubs in the backyard. I have no pic, but a decent description. The homeowner said they were from germany and called ginster or ginsta, but the german ginster bushes are NOT what these were. These had single stalks that arose from the ground. These stalks did not branch at all and were about 10ft long. The stalks were very hard but green in color and lined with ribbed heart shaped leaves (sorry I don't know the technical term). In the spring they get a 2" yellow carnation looking flower along the whole stalk. I cannot find these ANYWHERE online. I have searched and searched and would appreciate any help that can be given. Thank you.

The German word Ginster is commonly used for broom shrubs, genista or cytisus. Check online and see which one matches yours most. Good luck!

Dear kyocius 7a,
I think the shrub you have described is _Kerria japonica_.
