When does tiger eye umac leaf out?

When does tiger eye sumac usually begin to leaf out in zone 6B/7A? I don't see any leaf buds swelling yet. Is it like redbud which is starting to leaf out around my house (on trees too young to flower) or is late like crape myrtles?

I bought a small tiger eye sumac last fall and I'm being a helicopter gardener on my new baby.

now why would you compare a tree that flowers BEFORE it leafs out.. with yours???

thing leaf out.. when they are darn ready.. and transplant can do all kinds of weird things ... in regard to timing ...

relax.. and let it do its own thing ...

find a small insignificant branch.. give it the scratch test.. for green under the bark .. and let us know what you find..

with micro climates and your late transplant.. knowing what other peeps plants are doing.. may not get you far along.. unless someone simply says .. its a late one ...

I have the same tree here in Z6, and they aren't showing any life yet. Patience, it is too early to abandon hope.

If you want to have a season of helicoptering, might I suggest Ptelea trifoliata. Only the tiniest green showing, and that is at the bottom of the tree. It takes about a month before the leaves on the top branches grow out. I haven't seen any other tree that takes so long to come into leaf once the bottom leafs out..

spring fever is tough on all of us..

even after many years of going thru it.. i am usually convinced.. EVERYTHING is dead ... lol ...

but after 30 odd years .. of such.. i gave up worrying about 3 years ago ... lol ...

unless you got poor stock to start with.. or totally abandoned it after transplant [no water] ... most of these things .. especially shrubs.. are near bulletproof ...

it isnt worth the emotional investment to worry too much [the definition of helicopter mom] ... many such things can die back to the ground.. but if the roots have any life in them.. they will be back ...

The only reason I'm hovering over this one is that I bought it last fall at a clearance and I was a bit suspicious about the condition. But I'd really been wanting one of these and it came with a guarantee which I have actually manage to hold on to.

If it doesn't leaf out when it is supposed to, I'll know I bought a dud to begin with and hope they have some more in better condition this year.

But I didn't know if it was an early leaf outer or a late one.
