I need an evergreen privacy 'fence' at the back of my yard, and the soil is red clay. I don't have a sprinkler system, so the plants need to be drought-tolerant. From what I've read, yaupon holly would work (not the dwarf variety - I want a tall shrub). Is there any place I can buy several of them CHEAP? Is there any other evergreen shrub/tree for red clay & dry conditions that would be more inexpensive? It's on a hill, so the drainage is OK.

Sooner Plant Farm does indeed have Yaupon, but I need to buy cheaper than they offer. I'd be willing to buy small sizes. Or can I grow from seed (berries)?

do understand.. that NOTHING is drought tolerant.. until fully ESTABLISHED ... which might take a year or two ... depending on weather ... if there is no way.. you can supplement water for the first growing season .... then maybe the project isnt a good one ... check out the link for small cheap plants ... ken
Here is a link that might be useful: link
